September Is Falls Prevention Awareness Month

Falls Prevention Awareness Month is a nationwide observance that reaches millions of older adults to raise awareness on preventing falls, provides steps to reduce the risk of falls, and helps older adults live without fear of falling. Falls remain the leading cause of injury death for older Americans.

The Washington State Department of Health has information and resources for Falls Prevention Awareness Week 2026.

National Falls Prevention Awareness Week will be observed September 21 – 25, 2026. Read the Governor’s Proclamation (PDF). Each year local groups across Washington state organize events to raise awareness that falls are not a normal part of aging; most falls are preventable.
